International colloquium on the 80th anniversary of the ILO Committee of Experts (Geneva, 24-25 November 2006)

The International Labour Standards Department of the International Labour Office is organizing a two-day colloquium to mark the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the ILO's Committee of Experts (1926-2006), an independent body for the supervision of the application of ratified international labour Conventions. The meeting will focus on current issues concerning the effectiveness of supervision in the international legal system. The aim is to put the Committee's work into broader perspective by bringing together practitioners from different international human rights bodies and scholars specialized in the problems of state compliance with binding norms in international law.
