The Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations is publishing this year a General Survey on Social Security Instruments, which is the second General Survey linked to the follow-up of the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization adopted in 2008.

Switzerland is the 12th Member State, the 6th European country, and the first landlocked State with maritime interests, to ratify the MLC, 2006. The Swiss ratification gives a major boost to the ratification campaign launched by the ILO Director-General in December 2010 inviting member States to ratify the MLC, 2006 either on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of its adoption in February 2011or at the equally symbolic 100th session of the International Labour Conference in June 2011.

The workshop that was held in Nadi, Fiji from 27 to 29 October 2010 brought together seafarers, ship-owners and government labour and maritime officers from Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu to promote the ratification and implementation of the MLC, adopted by the ILO’s International Labour Conference in 2006.
