Challenges and opportunities facing public utilities. Report TMCOPU/2003

This report reviews the employment and social issues currently confronting the public utilities sector. It considers the role of multinational enterprises in the sector as well as the impact of mergers and acquisitions. It also examines renewable energy and sustainable development, key challenges for the sector that also provide opportunities for governments, employers and workers. A section of the report looks specifically at water, as this sector embarks on the path that electricity and gas have already started and reflects on the importance of social dialogue in a rapidly globalizing industry.
