The global campaign “Decent Work. A Better World Starts Here” also involves an “interactive cube”, that provides a new way for viewers to capture the overall message about decent work. The cube provides access to a dynamic multimedia experience through an incorporated touch screen that displays a wide range of messages on decent work involving people from all walks of life. In the cube you will find videos, interviews, documentaries, Public Service Announcements, statements, testimonies and other multimedia materials.
The cube aims at promoting global messages on social justice and making decent work a reality for all.
The campaign, particularly important in the context of the serious economic challenges facing the world of work, ultimately seeks to instil “decent work ” as an important part of the global response.
The cube also illustrates the structure of the ILO, unique in the UN System, where representatives of governments, employers and workers organizations come together to jointly engage in shaping employment policies, overseeing labour standards and handling work-related issues. In addition to promoting spatial closeness with the viewer, the open angles and the absence of a defined ceiling give a sense of openness for people to meet, learn and share experiences.
Decent work sums up the aspirations of people in their working lives. The cube reflects just that: combining openness and closeness while allowing private space, to sit, meet and discuss the meaning of decent work.
The Decent Work Cube will be on display at the Palais des Nations in Geneva until 31 July 2009, and thereafter at the ILO Headquarters building in Geneva. Further scheduled displays of the cube will be announced in these pages.
