The Ethiopian Employers' Federation (EEF) celebrated its 60th Anniversary on January 16, 2013 at the United Nations Conference Centre.

During his opening speech, H.E. Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, highlighted the big role that the Federation played in coordinating and supporting employers and investors in the country in line with the national effort of poverty alleviation.

His Excellency Ato Tadele Yimer, President of EEF, also further heralded the Federation's past efforts in overcoming many challenges to become a strong association that its members can be proud of. He also highlighted the Federation's commitment to play a vital role in working together with partners in changing the poverty affiliated image of the country.

During this long journey, the ILO has supported EEF in capacity building initiatives as well as direct actions, particularly in the areas of promoting social dialogue, elimination of child labour, HIV/AIDS prevention and work place policy, as well as productivity and competitiveness in the private sector, particularly in floriculture, textile and garment sectors. The cornerstone for this support has been based on the fact that Ethiopia has ratified all the fundamental conventions of the ILO, including Convention No. 87 (Freedom of Association and Protection of Rights to Organize), Convention No. 98 (The Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining) and Convention 144 (Tripartite Consultation).
