Shown at the 100th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, this film kicked off a high-level panel discussion with youth leaders on the employment challenges facing young people today.

The committee will run from June 1 to 13, 2011 and will focus on social security and how it can contribute to social justice and a fair globalization.

ILO TV interviewed H.E. Dr Ahmed El-Borai, Minister of Manpower and Migration of Egypt about the recent declaration guaranteeing the rights of all Egyptian trade unions to be registered and freely pursue their legitimate activities. He expressed his interest in looking at how social protection measures, skills training and the development of a minimum wage could help tackle unemployment and fight poverty in Egypt. (in French)

ILO TV interviewed Mr. Habib Yousfi, President of the General Confederation of Algerian Enterprises (CGEA) on the eve of a high-level discussion on "Challenges and Change in the Arab World" held by the ILO Governing Body. Discussing the revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia, he said that "if the Algerian experience can be of help to these countries which have undergone so much change, we would be happy to cooperate with them". In its annual employment trends survey the ILO reports that the world's working poor grew by 40 million because of the economic crisis. At the same time several economies in the developing world have seen their unemployment rates fall below pre-crisis levels. With signs of economic recovery, ILO TV interviews ILO economist Theodoor Sparreboom on the outlook for labour markets across the developing world in 2011.

With global unemployment at record highs for the third straight year since the start of the economic crisis, the International Labour Office (ILO) warned in its annual employment trends survey that weak recovery in jobs is likely to continue in 2011, especially in developed economies.
