As the 17th Conference of Parties of the UN Convention on Climate Change enters its second week, the International Labour Office is organizing and participating in a series of events aimed at addressing the challenges and opportunities of climate change impacts and policies on the world of work.

Kyoto (ILO News): The Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Juan Somavia, warned that “dark clouds” are gathering again in Asia, even as growth rebounds and investment is flowing back. Asia’s economy is more open than ever before but with the risk of the global economy slipping into a double-dip recession, this openness has positive as well as negative implications.

Kyoto (ILO News): The Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Juan Somavia, praised Japan's commitment to creating decent work opportunities for women, men and young people, and called on the country to continue to use its voice in the G-20 to support more concerted international action to put the creation of jobs at the centre of efforts to solve the global economic crisis.

In 2001 China's Ministry of Labour and Social Security signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Labour Organization (ILO) launching a programme of cooperation based on the ILO's Decent Work agenda to support national reform in China and social progress worldwide. Ten years after its adoption, the 6th Joint Committee review took place in Beijing from 28 November to 1 December 2011.
