    The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced a joint conference to be hosted by the Prime Minister of Norway, Jens Stoltenberg, on 13 September 2010, in Oslo, to explore new ways of forging a sustainable, job-rich recovery from the global economic crisis.

    The Youth Employment Network (YEN), an interagency partnership of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations (UN) and the World Bank, have signed an agreement with the Jacobs Foundation, a Swiss-based private foundation, to build an evidence base in youth employment through evaluating the impact of youth employment programmes.

  2. ILO book sheds light on working conditions in the remote work industry

    A new book by the International Labour Organization (ILO) says that “remote work” – the offshoring and outsourcing of business services from developed to developing countries using information and communications technologies – is creating jobs that are of “reasonably good quality by local standards”, but that the industry has some way to go before achieving full decent work.

  3. President of Switzerland launches project to support Indonesian small and medium-sized enterprises

    The President of the Swiss Confederation, H.E. Madame Doris Leuthard, attended the launch of an ILO project designed to help Indonesia’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) become more competitive and sustainable by focusing on workplace cooperation and improving labour and working conditions.

  4. Globalization and Employment: Global Shocks, Structural Change and Policy Response

    Leaders from International and major non-governmental Organizations and academics met at a conference organized by the International Labour Office (ILO) and the Global Trade and Financial Architecture (GTFA) project on "Globalization and Employment in the light of global shocks". During the event, the ILO launched a new publication entitled "Trade and Employment in the Global Jobs Crisis".

    International Labour Organization Director-General Juan Somavia today welcomed the G20 Leaders’ statement from Toronto in which they gave the “highest priority to safeguard and strengthen the recovery and to the next steps they should take to ensure a full return to growth with quality jobs”.

  2. ILO urges strong action on jobs to ensure balanced economic recovery on eve of Toronto G20 Summit

    The annual Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO) concluded its 2010 session today with a strong call for placing employment and social protection at the centre of recovery policies. “We must get the right balance of policies to secure strong, sustainable and balanced growth,” said conference delegates.
