GENEVA (ILO News) – Against the backdrop of unprecedented youth unemployment levels, the ILO is to host a global Youth Employment Forum (see: www.ilo.org/yef) at its headquarters in Geneva from May 23-25. The Forum will bring together more than 100 youth from around the world for wide-ranging discussion and reflection on the state of the global jobs crisis and the major challenges facing young people in their search for decent work.

Young representatives from employer and worker groups, youth associations, the ILO and partner organizations will share their experiences and views on the current employment situation and discuss practical examples of successful initiatives, which have led to the promotion of decent work for youth.

The Forum’s plenary sessions, thematic discussions and breakout workshops will focus primarily on:
  • Examining the impact of the youth employment crisis and reviewing facts and issues from across different regions;
  • Discovering ways to enable access to decent work for young people (including students, interns, informal workers, unpaid family contributors...);
  • Developing partnerships for more and better jobs for youth.
