UNDP Administrator to address the ILO on the global jobs crisis

UNDP Administrator Helen Clark will address the ILO Governing Body on Monday, 22 March to discuss the ILO’s Global Jobs Pact and policy issues concerning employment in countries affected by the global economic crisis. The meeting will be followed by a conference organized by the ILO International Institute for Labour Studies (IILS) on “Overcoming the Global Jobs Crisis: what do we know about experiences that work?”.

GENEVA (ILO News) – UNDP Administrator Helen Clark will address the ILO Governing Body on Monday, 22 March to discuss the ILO’s Global Jobs Pact and policy issues concerning employment in countries affected by the global employment crisis.

Ms Clark will address the Working Party on the Social Dimension of Globalization during its afternoon session, beginning at 3 p.m. in the Governing Body room of the ILO.

During a morning session of the Working Party beginning at 10 a.m., Dr Compton Bourne, President of the Caribbean Development Bank, will address the Working Party.

The Working Party session will be followed at 5 p.m. by a conference organized by the ILO International Institute for Labour Studies (IILS) on “Overcoming the Global Jobs Crisis: what do we know about experiences that work?”.

The conference will be opened by ILO Director-General Juan Somavia and chaired by Maria Nazareth Farani Azevêdo, Permanent Representative of Brazil and Chair of the Governing Body. Participants to the conference include: Raymond Torres, head of the IILS, Bruno Coquet, Chair of the EU Employment Committee, Marcio Pochmann, President of Institute for Applied Economics, Brazil, Gilles De Robien, French Government Delegate to the Governing Body, as well as experts from Egypt, Germany and the Republic of Korea.

The Conference will discuss effective policies to overcome the jobs crisis and draw conclusions on the implementation of the Global Jobs Pact.
