    Promoting better occupational safety and health through effective labour inspection to make Decent Work a global reality - Düsseldorf International Conference “Making Decent Work a Global Goal and a National Reality”

    From 18-20 September 2007 over 200 participants from 65 countries from all over the world met in Düsseldorf (Germany) to discuss the practical aspects of implementing international standards for decent work. The Conference was organized by the ILO in partnership with the German and Portuguese governments, the International Social Security Association, WHO, IALI and other international organizations, and with sponsorship from German partners Basi, Messe Düsseldorf, DGUV, Fraport AG, TÜV Rheinland, and BAD Team Prevent.

    UN ECOSOC reiterates strong support for ILO Decent work Agenda

    In a Ministerial declaration of the 2007 high-level segment of ECOSOC adopted on 10 July, the UN body reiterated its strong support for fair globalization and the need to translate growth into reduction of poverty.

    The CEB Toolkit for Mainstreaming Employment and Decent Work presented at the ECOSOC

    One year ago, the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) approved a Ministerial Declaration encouraging the UN system to develop a toolkit to promote decent work. Since then the ILO has worked closely with other agencies through the Chief Executives Board (CEB) chaired by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The final product, a CEB Toolkit for Mainstreaming Employment and Decent Work, is designed to help organizations throughout the multilateral system assess and improve employment and decent work outcomes of their own policies, programmes and activities.

    Dutch government supports Decent Work Country Programmes

    The Government of the Netherlands will provide 38.5 million dollars to support the launch of the ILO Decent Work Country Programme strategy over the next four years.
