Panel of Judges - 2017 Global Media Competition on Labour Migration

1. Rana Sabbagh, Jordan, is executive director of Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism, the Amman-based media support network promoting investigative reporting in nine Arab countries. In 28 years of professional experience in the Middle East, Sabbagh has served as editor of the Jordan Times and was the first woman to run a political daily newspaper in the region. Sabbagh is a former Reuters correspondent in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates and she helped start Jordan's second independent newspaper, Al Ghad. She writes a regular opinion column for Jordan's Al Arab Al-Yawm newspaper and for the London-based Al Hayat daily newspaper. Sabbagh also is the Jordan correspondent for The Times of London. he is currently enrolled in an Executive Masters in Positive Leadership and Strategy at Madrid's I.E.

2. Jim Mulvaney is a veteran journalist who has reported from more than 60 countries on five continents and led a team that won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting. Mulvaney has worked as a reporter, investigative team leader, national correspondent, foreign correspondent and high-level editor during more than 20 years in journalism. He has written extensively on organized crime, including the corrupting influence on both government and trade unions. He works as an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York and teaches journalism at St. John's University in NY. Jim participated in 2016 panel of judges.

3. Véronique Durroux-Malpartida is the head of the Spanish News Unit at the United Nations’ Department of Public Information. In her 16 year-career in the UN she has worked in the fields of information, communications and digital media with different assignments in Geneva, Mexico, and New York, including as a web editor at the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Between 2012 and 2015 she was the Deputy Communications Director at the International Potato Center, a non-profit agricultural research center based in Lima, Peru, with many projects in developing countries. She also developed communication strategies for an agri-food systems research program at CGIAR, a global partnership for food security. She holds an MA in Political Science from the Université des Sciences Sociales in Toulouse, France, and postgraduate diplomas in information management and communications.

4. Philippe Leruth, President of the International Federation of Journalism. Journalist at the daily newspaper L’Avenir, Philippe Leruth was vice-president of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), the European group of the IFJ, from 2004 to 2013, and AGJPB president from 1995 to 2005.
