GENEVA (ILO News) – The International Labour Office (ILO) is to launch a book analysing the causes and consequences of the global economic and jobs crises and offering policy responses for both developed and developing countries.
The book – From the Great Recession to labour market recovery: Issues, evidence and policy options – presents a global overview of different aspects of the crisis, from the pre-crisis period to the unemployment and social impacts of the recession to the macroeconomic stimulus and labour market policies adopted by various governments.
This in-depth review is edited by Iyanatul Islam and Sher Verick – senior economists at the ILO’s Employment Sector – and draws on research by current and former ILO experts.
The book launch will take place on April 7th from 15:30 to 17:30 in Room IX of the ILO. It will be chaired by Mr. José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Director of the Employment Sector of the ILO. Mr. Heiner Flassbeck, Director of the Division on Globalization and Development Strategies at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), will act as keynote speaker.
The event is open to the press and the general public. A cocktail will be offered following the book launch.
