TURIN (International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization - ILO) – How does globalization relate to the management of change in the world of work? How can we put the principle of “flexicurity” into practice? And, finally, how can we renew the European Social Model to make it sustainable and extend it to other regions of the world? These are the issues and the challenges that will be dealt with in Turin, Italy, from 1 to 3 July during an international conference entitled “High-level tripartite dialogue on the European Social Model in the context of globalization”.

The first two days (July 1 and 2) will see international experts and delegations from a range of European countries discuss the links between the International Labour Organization’s Decent Work Agenda and the social dimension of integrating the European model.

A special session on Thursday 3 July (from 9.15 a.m. to 12.45 p.m.) will take the form of a “dialogue among Ministers”, an innovative formula designed to create an opportunity for high-level reflection on today’s challenges in the world of work. The Ministers of Labour of Brazil, Denmark, France, India, Italy, Poland and Tanzania, the Director-General of the ILO, Juan Somavia, the European Commissioner Vladimír Špidla, and international representatives of the social partners will all be present. At 9.30 a.m., after a welcoming speech by the President of the Piedmont Region, Mercedes Bresso, there will be a screening of a short film summarizing the previous days’ sessions, which will be available on request.

The full programme is posted on the following site: www.itcilo.org/hld2008/press

When the conference closes on July 3, interviews requested in advance may be given.
