   We are all united to stop gender-based violence, says ILO Chief

   Violence in the world of work is deeply injurious to women and men, and there are obvious consequences for their families and societies, said ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder speaking at the International Women's Day event at the ILO. Mr Ryder stressed how putting an end to gender-based violence at work is integral to the promotion of decent work. Ms Janes Hodges, Director of the Bureau for Gender Equality of the ILO moderated the event; Ms Sarah Fox, Legal Counsel, American Federation of Labour and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and Ms Brenda Cuthbert of the Jamaica Employers' Federation (JEF) participated in the panel debate, while Dr Charlotte Harland Scott of the Republic of Zambia delivered the keynote address.

   Press Conference Highlights: Global Employment Trends for Women 2008

   "We've seen that over a ten year period 200 million new jobs have been created," says Dorothea Schmidt. "That's a big, big increase and that's very good news, but the problem is the type of job that was created. And we see that over half of the jobs that women have are what we call vulnerable." Dorothea Schmidt, co-author of the report "Global Employment Trends for Women 2008" and Evy Messel, Director of the ILO's Bureau for Gender Equality speak at the GET Women press conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
