    Vocational Training: An interview with Charles Fadel

    The ILO estimates that unemployment is up by more than 30 million worldwide since 2007. The number of unemployed youth increased by 8.5 million between 2008 and 2009, the largest year-on-year increase in at least ten years. Against this sombre economic background, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems worldwide are under pressure to deal with a host of employment and workplace challenges. ILO TV spoke with Mr Charles Fadel, employer representative, Cisco Systems, United States, about how TVET systems can respond to these challenges.

    Union education in the twenty-first century

    From 8-12 October 2007, more than 150 trade union representatives from 45 countries are meeting at ILO headquarters in Geneva to discuss ways to strengthen the capacity of trade unions to influence socio-economic policies and development strategies. Workers’ education activities are at the heart of these efforts to cope with the rapid changes in the world of work brought by globalization. ILO Online spoke with Dan Cunniah, Director a.i. of the ILO’s Bureau for Workers’ Activities.
