There are nearly 450,000 young people without jobs in Peru. They represent more than two thirds of the country's unemployed and of the 5 million young people who do have work, many are in "precarious" conditions, without social benefits or job security. So instead of looking for a job, many young Peruvians prefer to looking toward themselves and starting their own businesses.

The global jobs crisis is hitting the younger generation hard. According to the ILO, worldwide over 75 million young people are out of work and the problem is especially acute in countries like Spain that have been hard hit by the Euro crisis.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has warned of a "scarred" generation of young workers facing a dangerous mix of high unemployment, increased inactivity and precarious work in developed countries, as well as persistently high working poverty in the developing world.
