Nearly all jobs depend on water and those that ensure its safe delivery, yet the millions of people who work in water are often not recognized or protected by basic labour rights. Professor Jayati Ghosh, of the Centre for Economics Studies and Planning at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, explains what the relationship is between water and work, who works with water and what their situation is, and finally who is responsible for making the changes needed.

August 23 to 28 is World Water Week and Professor Ghosh will be a guest speaker at an ILO organized panel discussion on water and work at a special event in Stockholm, Sweden.
