    The International Labour Organization's campaign to promote gender equality highlights its contributions to advancing gender equality in the world of work and to raising awareness on the need to overcome existing barriers for women and men as a main driver for sustainable development. With the twelve themes of the campaign, key decent work issues are reinforced through a gender lens, demonstrating how various issues may affect women and men differently in their access to rights, employment, social protection and social dialogue.

  1. The Gender Dimensions of Agricultural and Rural Employment: Differentiated Pathways Out of Poverty

    FAO, IFAD and ILO organized a three-day technical expert workshop which was held in Rome, from 31 March to 2 April 2009. The workshop focused on the gaps, trends and current research in gender dismensions of agricultural employment. By ensuring rights, employment, social protection and social dialogue, Decent Work can be a means to achieve equitable, inclusive and sustainable development in rural areas where the majority of the world's poor live. Investing in gender equality in agriculture and rural employment not only makes economic sense but is also important for social justice.

  2. Labour Inspection in Italy by an elite unit of the Carabinieri and the Ministry of Labour

    This elite unit monitors the application of labour law and social security to combat illegal and disguised employment, exploitation of labour in “sweatshops”, trafficking in human beings and works towards the elimination of inhuman working conditions, including slavery.

    In December 2001 Argentina was thrown into the worst financial crisis of its history. In response to the massive unemployment that ensued, the International Labour Organization, with funding from Italian Cooperation, is working with the Argentine government to adapt job training to meet the needs of emerging sectors, like Argentina’s tourism industry.   1. Technical Cooperation at the ILO: Making Decent Work a Reality

    The International Labour Organization now conducts more than a 1,000 technical cooperation programs in over 80 countries with the help of some 60 donor institutions worldwide. By providing technical guidance on policy issues, and assistance in the design and implementation of development programs, ILO technical cooperation is helping to implement the Decent Work agenda at a national level, and make this concept a reality for all men and women.
