   International agencies join forces with ILO to launch global partnership to tackle child labour in agriculture

   12 June 2007

   In a ceremony marking a new global partnership to tackle child labour in agriculture, representatives from the FAO, IFAD, IFPRI, CGIAR, IFAP and the IUF signed an agreement at a side event to the International Labour Conference committing their organizations to a concerted effort to reach the target of ending the worst forms of child labour by 2016.

   Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller cites Decent Work Agenda as critical to stemming tidal wave of frustration

   Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller warned the delegates of the 96th International Labour Conference in Geneva of a "human tsunami" of rage and rebellion if more was not done to address the issue of poverty in a meaningful way. She said the Decent Work Agenda was essential to balanced economic and social development.

   His Highness, the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa calls for regional summit on labour issues, globalization

   His Highness, the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa stressed the need for "true social dialogue, true debate" about the issues and impacts of globalization in the Middle East and worldwide, in his address to the 96th International Labour Conference in Geneva.

4. Environment, Trade & Employment issues are part of the challenge for Decent Work - ILO Director-General addresses the International Labour Conference, 11 June 2007

   ILO Director-General Juan Somavia told delegates at the 96th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva that Decent Work has been accepted as a global goal, most recently at the G8 Summit in Germany, but that major challenges still remain.

   International Labour Conference - Speeches by Presidents of Chile and Ghana call Decent Work "a vital obligation" and ILO "an invaluable partner" in separate addresses(Original Version)

   Decent Work is "a vital obligation in every country and an ethical imperative for every nation", according to H.E. Michelle Bachelet, President of Chile as she addressed a special sitting of the 96th International Labour Conference. At a separate special sitting of the ILC, the delegates were told by H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor, President of Ghana that the ILO was an invaluable partner in reaching the country's development goals for 2015.

   Albanian Deputy Minister Mr. Kastriot Sulka elected as President of the 96th Session of the International Labour Conference

   The 96th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland elected as President, Mr. Kastriot Sulka, Deputy Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of Albania, along with delegates from Brazil, France and Switzerland as Vice Presidents. Mr. Sulka gave his first address as President of the ILC during a plenary session on Friday, June 1st 2007.
