The ILO and the government of Bangladesh to hold a press conference on Rana Plaza disaster

DHAKA – The International Labour Office (ILO) and the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh will hold a joint press conference on the Rana Plaza disaster.

Mr Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo, Deputy Director General of Field Operation and Partnership, ILO, has been leading a high-level ILO mission to Bangladesh to offer the organization’s sympathy and condolence to the victims and to expedite action by all parties in the aftermath of the tragedy. His mission programme included meetings with the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, the Hon’ble Minister of Labour and Employment, Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Md. Israfil Alam MP, the Secretary of Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr Mikail Shipar and representatives of Bangladesh’s workers’ and employers’ organizations.

The press conference is expected to be attended by the Ambassadors of the USA and Canada, the Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh as well as partners, employers' and workers' organizations.

The press conference will be held at 15.00 hrs. on Saturday 4 May 2013, at the conference hall, Minister of Foreign Affairs, (Tel : 029859991/9841787-92).
