Media advisory | 03 May 2013

GENEVA – The International Labour Organization (ILO) is to launch a new report on the state of labour markets for youth worldwide. The report, entitled “Global Employment Trends for Youth 2013”, is for release on Wednesday, 8 May.

The report and all associated material and information are embargoed until 10:00 GMT on Wednesday 8 May (12 noon Geneva time).

The new study examines the continuing job crisis affecting young people in many parts of the world. It provides updated statistics on global and regional youth unemployment rates and presents ILO policy recommendations to curb the current trends.

Embargoed electronic copies of the report and some associated media material will be made available to journalists upon request when they become available by contacting the ILO Department of Communication and Public Information starting on +4122/799-7912, newsroom@ilo.org.

For Geneva correspondents

A press briefing by ILO Assistant Director-General for Policy, José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, will be held, under embargo, on Wednesday 8 May at 10:00 Geneva time in Press Room III at the Palais des Nations. The password to access our media site will be sent automatically to all Geneva correspondents as soon as the embargoed report becomes available.

Interviews by print, web or broadcast media can be scheduled via the ILO Department of Communication.

Video coverage of the press conference will be available for broadcasters. Please contact the Department of Communication/Multimedia Unit on +4122/799-7935 or by emailing naets-sekiguchi@ilo.org. Facilities (TV studio and ISDN line) are available for broadcasters wishing to interview the authors by contacting the above.

For Twitter users

Theodore Sparreboom and Sara Elder, ILO Senior Labour Economists, will hold a Twitter question and answer session on the report’s findings on Friday May 10th from 14:00-15:00 GMT.  To participate, please tweet your questions on that day and time to @ILONews, using the hashtag #GETYouth.
