  1. 10th high level meeting of the ILO and the European Commission

    For the 10th time in a row, and in the presence of the ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, the ILO Office and the European Commission (EC) held their annual high-level meeting defining the focus of their cooperation for the next year. The ILO Office and the EC reaffirmed their mutual partnership and defined fields and areas of common action in 2013.

  1. European Parliament delegation discusses response to the crisis with ILO Director-General

    A high-level delegation of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL) of the European Parliament visited the ILO headquarters in Geneva on 12 November 2012. The delegation met the ILO Director-General Guy Ryder and discussed – among other things – the response to the crisis in Europe and in the world, the implementation of social protection floors, the promotion of the Convention on domestic work and recent ILO initiatives on the Arab Spring.

  1. "Immediate and urgent change of policy needed", says Guy Ryder, Director-General elect of the ILO

    Assessing the employment situation in the EU at the European Commission’s Jobs for Europe conference on 6 and 7 September 2012, the ILO Director-General elect Guy Ryder said that the "drama of the European unemployment crisis" shows the need for a new policy approach. There is evidence "that the currently predominant mix of austerity and structural reforms is unacceptable and has produced negative results", he pointed out.

  1. ILO at the 'Jobs for Europe' conference

    The European Commission organized on 6 and 7 September 2012 a major employment policy conference in Brussels. The ILO Director General elect called for an "immediate and urgent change of policy in the EU"
