15-17 June 2009, Geneva, Switzerland ILO Summit on the Global Jobs Crisis Heads of State and Government, Vice-presidents, labour ministers and representatives from employers’ and workers’ organizations gathered in Geneva during the International Labour Conference to discuss the global jobs crisis.
24 April 2009, Kampala Launch of the IPEC Project for Uganda "Support for the preparatory phase of the Uganda National Action Plan for the Elimination of child Labour" (SNAP) SNAP, a new four-year project funded by the US Department of Labor, will assist the Ugandan government to further strengthen the country's legal,
policy, institutional and social foundations for large-scale action against the worst forms of child labour. Interventions are being designed to tap into components of the Ugandan Decent Work Country Programme as well as opportunities offered by other ongoing political, social and economic development programmes and policies. The project launch will take place on 24 April 2009 in Kampala to coincide with the 90th Anniversary Celebrations of the ILO and is being organized with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, the Federation of Uganda Employers, and two workers' organizations - the National Organization of Trade Unions and the Central Organization of Free Trade Unions.
9-13 February 2009, Lisbon, Portugal 8th European Regional Meeting The 8th European Regional Meeting (ERM) will provide the space for governments and worker and employer organisations, from across Europe and Central Asia, to come together and shape the ILO's future strategy in the European and Central Asian member countries of the ILO. There will also be a high level panel discussion with Prime Ministers from several European countries and representatives from worker and employer organisations.

"Human development remains a key priority, and human resources are the most precious and valuable asset that countries possess", the “Doha Declaration” states, stressing that "The realization of full and productive employment and decent work for all is essential."
