GENEVA (ILO News) – The 96th International Labour Conference (ILC) will take place from 30 May to 15 June 2007 in the Palais des Nations, 8-14 avenue de la Paix, Geneva, Switzerland. The Conference is the annual tripartite meeting of the International Labour Organization’s 180 member States. Here is some basic information for journalists wishing to cover this event (for more details on the ILO Conference programme, please see the ILO web site www.ilo.org or the conference preview press release to be published on 28 May).
Media Accreditation. Correspondents wishing to cover the ILC must be accredited by the office of the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. To do this, journalists should send a fax requesting accreditation to +4122/917-2313 or +4122/917-0073 or email cfegli@unog.ch or mlgaluppi@unog.ch, along with a letter signed by their editor indicating the reason for accreditation and the dates for which accreditation is required, a photocopy of media credentials and passport. Journalists can call +4122/917-2313, or +4122/917-3380 or email cfegli@unog.ch or mlgaluppi@unog.ch for more information. Once these documents have been approved by DPI, journalists can collect their accreditation at the Pregny entrance gate to the UN building (across from the Red Cross building).

Access. All tripartite meetings of the ILO are open to the media unless otherwise noted. During debates, correspondents are invited to cover proceedings from special designated media areas. Correspondents who wish to speak to individual delegates or ILO officials are kindly asked to use discretion when entering Conference venues or contact ILO press officers for assistance.
Press conferences, briefings and announcements. Other press conferences and briefings will be announced in the press rooms of the Palais des Nations and via loudspeaker system. A daily media preview will be issued as needed throughout the Conference via e-mail. Those who wish to be added to the ILO electronic mailing list should send an e-mail to ILO_MEDIA@ilo.org or provide details to an ILO press officer.
The ILO will launch a new publication, Working Time Around the World (Note 1), with a press conference on 7 June, at 10:00 a.m. at the Patek Philippe Museum, 7 rue des Vieux-Grenadiers, 1205 Geneva. This exhaustive study is the first to offer a comprehensive global overview and comparative analysis of working time trends in both developing and transition countries.
Radio/television coverage and facilities: The ILO provides radio correspondents with facilities in the Palais des Nations for conducting interviews as well as editing and transmission of radio reports pertaining to the ILO and the International Labour Conference. Studio facilities can be reserved through the ILO Television and radio unit (5th floor, A-565) or the radio technician’s office No. E-10 (new UN building), Maurice Engler, mobile: +4179/637-9470.
Television correspondents wishing to conduct interviews with ILO officials or to obtain live or taped coverage of the conference proceedings can make arrangements through the ILO Television and Radio unit (Karen Naets-Sekiguchi, office A-565, mobile: +4179/593-1363). Video editing, studio and transmission facilities are available at the ILO free of charge and can be arranged through the same office.
