GENEVA (ILO News) – The International Labour Office (ILO) will release a new global report analysing the impact of HIV/AIDS on the world of work in 50 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and two developed regions. Prepared by the ILO Programme on HIV/AIDS in the World of Work, the study provides the most comprehensive data to date on the impact of AIDS in the working world, with extensive data and analysis for the most affected regions of the world.

The report "HIV/AIDS and work: global estimates, impact and response" will be presented at the XVth International Conference on AIDS in Bangkok, Thailand, on 11-17 July and was prepared on the basis of newly developed demographic and epidemiological data from the United Nations and other sources.

The report is embargoed for publication on or after 1700 GMT, Sunday 11 July 2004 and will only appear on the ILO website at that time. Advance copies are available to the media from the ILO Department of Communication and its global communications offices.

A briefing with the author of the report, Ms. Odile Frank, is scheduled in Press Room III of the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Friday 9 July at 11.30 a.m. Ms. Frank will also be available for interviews in English and French following the press event and in Bangkok, and can be reached through the ILO Department of Communication on +4179/593-1366.
