  02 April 2008 - A new report from the International Labour Organization shows that economic empowerment for women is vital for equal participation of women and men in the labour market and equal access to obtaining decent work. In Sri Lanka, Rupa Manel Silva is leading the way with a bank run by women for women.
• Out of Informality – Ghana’s Way to Decent Work -
  02 April 2008 - In Ghana, local authorities are teaming up with informal workers to find solutions for reducing poverty and bringing decent work opportunities to their communities. It’s a new initiative that has been so successful in the two areas where it’s been trialed, that it’s going to be rolled out across Ghana in the months to come. ILO TV reports.
• Global economic turbulence to spur unemployment increase, says new ILO report -
  24 January 2008 - The new ILO Global Employment Trends 2008 report says market turmoil, rising oil prices and credit uncertainty could leave 5 million more unemployed this year.

  17 December 2007 - After centuries of poverty and emigration, Ireland has emerged as a Celtic Tiger with a booming economy. New jobs in construction, hotels, restaurants and in agriculture have been filled by migrant workers, but as ILO TV reports from Dublin, some have fared better than others.

  29 November 2007 - Whether it’s organising a football match or marching through the streets, Nurse Janet Mvula and a team of trained farm workers, called peer educators, are taking their AIDS awareness work beyond their workplace at York Farm to the local community.
• Uganda: Maternity leave brings protection to women security guards and their employer -
  17 October 2007 - All African women work. Very few women work in formal workplaces. Even fewer expect to keep their job when they have a baby, much less get maternity leave. But that is not the case for a group of women security guards in Uganda. As ILO TV reports, in an industry where it's a surprise to find women at work, both workers and employer are finding advantages in unionization and maternity leave.
• Informal economy work sees more working hours for men, less for women -
  08 June 2007 - A new report from the ILO says that one in five workers worldwide work excessively long hours, up to 48 a week, often to merely make ends meet. The study also says women work shorter hours than men, most likely because they bear the brunt of responsibility for the unpaid work of taking care of the family and household.

• Burkina Faso: a New Life for Trafficked Children -
  15 March 2007 - In Burkina Faso, the focus is on bus stations and bus drivers to help prevent children from being trafficked. Rescued children are given apprenticeships to ensure they won't be trafficked again.
• Sewing The Seeds Of Women’s Rights -
  09 February 2007 - The cut flower industry in Tanzania and across East Africa is booming. Trade unionist Phillipina Mosha is training workers in the cut flower business to understand their labour rights, promote gender equality and improve safety and health in the workplace.
• Rebuilding Baphuon Temple in Angkor, Cambodia -
  05 February 2007 - Tourists will soon be able to visit one of Angkor’s greatest treasures: the 11th century Baphuon temple. Now the temple is the centre of a huge archaeological reconstruction effort. Safety training means today’s Khmer construction workers are reclaiming this piece of their heritage without the dangers their ancestors faced.
• Marinalva: Mobile Squad Labour Inspector -
  12 January 2007 - Marinalva is a labour inspector, part of the Brazilian government team called the “mobile squad”. They inspect farms in remote parts of the country, rescuing workers from forced labour as ILO TV explains.
• Burkina Faso: Protecting the Environment by Profiting from Garbage -
  12 January 2007 - Burkina Faso’s first plastic recycling centre is paving the way for a new kind of development project. It provides a money earner to the poor while tackling environmental pollution. Local industry also benefits – the recycled plastic granules cost half the price of importing new plastic from abroad.
• Bulgaria: joining the European Union -
  12 January 2007 - As Bulgaria joins the European Union, it must enforce tougher safety and health standards. To avoid having to pay out big compensation benefits, Bulgarian employers are looking more towards preventing accidents before they happen by setting up a safety and health monitoring service.   11 October 2006 - Severe drought and heavy loss of livestock have led traditional Mongolian herders to mine gold in order to survive. Their work is hazardous and illegal. A new law has been proposed to help improve the working conditions of 100,000 informal gold miners.
• Peru: Ayacucho -
  10 October 2006 - In Peru, a group of women are using their traditional skills to update a perennial fashion favourite: The Converse hi-top sneaker. They’re not only giving the well-known brand a boost: they are also giving themselves a step up on the income ladder by creating sustainable new jobs for their region. ILO TV explains.
