What is Gess ?

Gess is a space created for professionals in the extension of social security. It is both an Internet application and a global network of experts. Gess aims to provide a support system to actors working in the field and allows them to enhance their knowledge and skills in the extension of social security. More broadly, Gess seeks to advance the development of operational knowledge in the field of the extension of social security. To this end Gess: 1) provides access to resources (technical notes, databases, training kits, etc.); 2) fosters exchanges of information and the creation of new knowledge via wikis and discussion forums; 3) provides technical support for running projects in the field and offers training sessions.

Who are Gess users ?

Gess is primarily aimed at professionals working in the extension of social security. These professionals are policy makers, technical teams from ministries of employment, health, social protection or finance, as well as technical cooperation projects, social security funds, managers of health mutual organizations, cooperatives, NGOs or civil society organizations, social partners, donors, trainers, researchers, etc.

How is Gess structured?

The plan gives the general structure of Gess. Gess is divided into six areas (resources, training, assistance, research, G-Forum and news), and four transversal topics (Knowledge Base, Your action plan, Workspace and Country profiles). To access the contents of any one of the four topics, click on the corresponding link. You will be automatically redirected to its homepage.

How do I conduct a search within Gess ?

You can either use the plan or the "Search" button located on the top blue banner. You can also use one of the Gess databases for conducting searches in specific areas: the library, bilingual glossary, expert database, G-Forum discussion lists archives, social security inquiry database, etc.

How do I navigate within Gess ?

Gess provides you with several options for accessing the same information. You can find the main links in the navigation bar at the top of the page (Resources, Training, Assistance, Research, G-Forum), in the 'Knowledge Base' menu (Relevance, Overview, Contingencies and Mechanisms), in the 'Your Action Plan' menu (ASSAP Concept and ASSAP Toolbox), in the 'Workspace' menu and the 'Country profiles' on the right side of the page. Within each topic, you can access the relevant information available in the Resources, Training, assistance and G-Forum areas. If you are lost, you can always consult the site map to locate where you are within Gess.

How can I participate in Gess?

The more you participate, the more Gess becomes a lively space for exchange and interaction. You can: add news ("Latest Gess News"), contribute new questions and answers to HELP, suggest new words and definitions for the glossary, suggest new resources for the library, comment on and evaluate existing resources, add content to the "Country profiles" and participate in one of the discussion groups in the G-Forum . By participating in Gess life, you earn Gess-points. With Gess-points, you can use the online help or participate in distance-learning workshops run by experts and training specialists.

How can I edit my personal information in Gess?

Just enter your login and password into the "Sign In" box and then click on "My account" in the same box. A form will appear in which you can enter the desired changes (address, phone number, profession, specialization, etc.). Your profile will be updated immediately.

How do I change my password?

Enter your username and password into the "Sign In" box and then click on "My account" in the same box. A form will appear in which you can enter your new password. The new password will be effective immediately.

How do I register? Why is it important to register?

Registering allows you to participate fully in Gess and to open a user account for earning Gess-points. To register, simply click on "Don't have an account yet: Sign up here" in the "Sign In" box. Please note: in order to have access to your user account, you must make sure that your web browser authorizes cookies.

How can I send you my ideas and suggestions for improving Gess?

You can tell us what you think and share information with us by simply clicking on "Community News" on the Gess homepage.

What do I do if I forgot my password?

Forgetting your password or login can be very frustrating! For a login/password reminder, contact us by clicking on "I lost my login/password" in the 'Sign in box'.

Why is it important to sign out when I finish using Gess?

If you are using a public or shared computer, don't forget to sign out when you are finished using Gess. Otherwise, the next user on the computer can access Gess services under your login name. The session does expire automatically after 30 minutes, however.
