The project is a continuation of the first phase, which was implemented by GENDER from 2006 to 2007. The second phase of the project supports gender-specific interventions to redress disparities and promote equal participation for women and men in the world of work. In particular, the project supports gender mainstreaming in ILO actions concerning indigenous and tribal peoples, child labour and trafficking, and promoting Decent Work in national poverty reduction initiatives. Recognising that gender equality is fundamental to the attainment of sustainable social and economic development, the Government of Denmark is committed to supporting the ILO’s gender equality mandate.

Building on the achievements and lessons from the first phase, the project seeks to expand and improve the knowledge base of practical and effective ways of addressing the gender concerns in key technical areas and particularly of vulnerable groups, including indigenous and tribal peoples.

Additional partners under the project are the Bureau for Employers’ Activities (ACT/EMP) and the Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV), ILO field offices and the International Training Center of the ILO, based in Turin.
