Knowledge Sharing on Gender Mainstreaming in the Netherlands-ILO Cooperation Programme

Completed in April 2010, this Programme contributed to and supported an integrated and consistent way of mainstreaming gender in the overall Netherlands/ILO programme.

Size/duration: 1 November 2006 - 30 April 2010
Contact(s): Geir T. Tonstol
Donor: Government of the Netherlands

Coordinated by GENDER, this project successfully addressed gender dimensions of both policy orientation and operational aspects of the overall Netherlands/ILO Cooperation Programme (NICP).

The project did this through building the gender mainstreaming capacity of ILO staff, constituents and other implementing partners. Its strategy involved close collaboration with 11 field-based NICP projects to support development and implementation of gender mainstreaming strategies within them. The 11 field-based projects addressed specific decent work priorities at national level such as employment creation, youth employment, local economic development, and bonded labour.

Launched in November 2006 and completed in April 2010, the main activities of the GENDER-coordinated project included offering technical guidance on gender mainstreaming, targeted training, and tools development. Activities were carried out in close collaboration with the ILO global Gender Network, as well as the ILO International Training Centre based in Turin.
