ILO Gender News: No. 19, November 2012

This 2012 issue of ILO Gender News highlights some of the main achievements across the regions towards the goal of gender equality in the world of work. It includes articles on the crucial role by ILO to promote decent work for domestic workers, increase employability and skills of women, reduce gender-based violence and reconcile work and family responsibilities.

This newsletter illustrates some of ILO’s successful responses to the labour market situation of women in terms of unemployment, the pay gap and the growing informal economy, along with the role played by workers’ and employers' organizations in bringing about gender equality at the workplace. Examples of joint work with other UN agencies - such as on decent work for women in rural areas during the Commission on the Status of Women - are also reported.

Readers will find a summary of gender-related issues that were discussed at the 2012 Session of the Conference and a list of new ILO resources.
