U.N.Women: What does it mean for the ILO?

A GENDER & PARDEV joint initiative. Lunch time talk - open Q&A format with key speakers Ms Alette van Leur, Director PARDEV and Ms Jane Hodges, Director GENDER

The United Nations General Assembly combined the mandates and assets of the four existing gender equality entities – OSAGI, DAW, UNIFEM and INSTRAW – into a new entity known as U.N. Women.

U.N. Women will work with the entire UN system to support member States in accelerating progress towards achieving the goals of gender equality and the empowerment of women. It will be led by an Under-Secretary-General (to be appointed) and report to the General Assembly through ECOSOC.

How will this affect ILO's objectives, policies and actions – including partnerships with the social partners and other UN agencies – at the global, regional and country levels?
