In 2008, the slogan that set the basis for the ILO International Women’s Day (IWD) was “Investing in Decent Work for Women: Not Just Right, but Smart”. This was connected to the theme of the 52nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women and the official United Nations IWD theme “Financing for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women”. This broad theme offered a unique opportunity to examine the economic empowerment of women and gender equality from various angles.
