  1. Innovations in Public Employment Programmes: A Policy Focus

    This training, with the participation of international and national trainers and experts, builds on the Innovations in Public Employment Programmes course, offered annually by the Centre, focusing on current policy debates arising from innovations in public employment programmes and how these can contribute to other policy priorities. It includes case studies from India, Ethiopia and South Africa, and provides policy insights to inform strategic decision-making and programme design.

  1. The Global Development Agenda after the Great Recession of 2008-2009: Revisiting the Seoul Development Consensus - Employment Policy Department Knowledge-Sharing Conference

    The Employment Policy Department’s Knowledge-Sharing Conference was held on 21 November 2011 at ILO headquarters in Geneva. Its goal was to provide a forum for distinguished external experts to share their knowledge on the evolution of the global development agenda after the great recession of 2008-2009. By revisiting the framework of the Seoul Development Consensus, the conference sought to assess whether it should and could be implemented with greater vigour in the current economic context of the G20 countries. It was also a great opportunity to discuss how to build a new development framework by sharing different country case studies.

  1. Pro-employment macroeconomic frameworks, sectoral strategies for employment creation and the informal economy - Employment Policy Department Knowledge-Sharing Workshop

    The Employment Policy Department’s 2011 annual retreat took place between the 20th and 23rd of September at the ILO premises in Geneva. Its goal was to share knowledge on progress made in five key work areas of the department: pro-employment macroeconomic frameworks, youth employment, sectoral strategies for employment creation, national employment policy formulation and research frontiers on the informal economy.

  2. Evaluation Clinic: Taqeem Fund for Evaluation in Youth Employment

    The Clinic will provide a venue for evaluation specialists to collaborate with youth employment and enterprise project teams from the Middle East and North Africa for the development of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plans. The 4-day event will include a series of interactive “consultation” sessions, lectures from technology, data, and evaluation experts, and the launch of a series of innovative Monitoring&Evaluation systems. Collaborating with Youth and Employment Network (YEN)on the delivery of the Clinic will be Silatech, 3ie, the Middle East Youth Initiative, Innovations for Poverty Action and the World Bank.

  3. 14th ILO Regional Seminar for Labour-based Practitioners

    This seminar is bringing together ministers, practitioners in labour-based works, policy makers, planners, researchers and academics from around the world to discuss employment-intensive policies and practices under the theme “Public Works for Decent Jobs and Poverty Reduction: Policies and Practices”.

  1. United Nations Expert Group Meeting On the Challenge of Building Employment for a Sustainable Recovery Programme

    The Division for Social Policy and Development (DSPD) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs organized, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization, an Expert Group Meeting on “The Challenge of Building Employment for a Sustainable Recovery”. The meeting took place from the 23rd to the 24th of June, 2011 in Geneva and brought together specialists to undertake a review of responses to the global jobs crisis in different countries and regions of the world and concrete policies and strategies to create productive, decent employment during the recovery were considered.

  2. United Nations Expert Group Meeting On Poverty Eradication

    The Division for Social Policy and Development (DSPD) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (IL0) organized a high-level Expert Group Meeting on “Poverty Eradication” from the 20th to 22nd of June 2011, in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the preparations for the 50th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD), which is scheduled to take place in New York in February 2012.

    The aim of the retreat hosted by the Employment Policy Department was to create a common platform of vision, knowledge and action on employment policy development. The event was attended by employment specialists from the field, HQ staff and external resource persons.
