Employment-Intensive Investment for Sustainable Development Training and Knowledge-sharing course

The ultimate aim of the course is to contribute towards the development and effective implementation of jobrich public investment policies and programmes for poverty reduction and sustainable development.

In developing countries, the sustainable development process has been hampered by endogenous problems such as poor infrastructure, limited financial capacity, and weak governance, among others. Despite evidence of progress (MDG indicators) made by countries in all regions of the world, the number of people living in extreme poverty and hunger surpasses one billion and inequalities between and within countries remain a significant challenge. There are also concerns about development gains being adversely affected by global phenomena like the financial and economic crisis, volatile energy and food prices and the consequences of climate change.

The ultimate aim of the course is to contribute towards the development and effective implementation of jobrich public investment policies and programmes for poverty reduction and sustainable development.
More specifically, after attending this training and knowledge-sharing event, participants will:
• better appreciate the policy and operational issues relevant to the employment-intensive investment approaches advocated by the ILO and other actors; and
• be better equipped to conceive, shape and manage employment-intensive infrastructure programmes in their respective countries.
