Employment Seminar Series

Informal and Formal Employment in a Liberalizing Economy

Though a large part of informal employment in India is in the unorganized sector, a significant number of workers in organized enterprises are engaged on informal terms. Importantly, informal employment within the organized sector has been growing at the expense of formal employment. Yet, this is not what one would expect to be the case for an economy that has experienced an improvement in the rate of economic growth that has been accompanied by liberalization. In this seminar, Professor Errol D’Souza provided a theoretical analysis of this phenomenon.

Presenter: Prof. Errol D’Souza, Director, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad
