The garment sector is considered one of the most promising sectors of the Kyrgyz economy. It has exhibited substantial export growth over the past years and thus contributes substantially to economic diversification and, given its labour intensive nature, to employment creation in Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, the sector is facing significant
challenges. Internal factors include serious decent work deficits in terms of employment conditions and high levels of informality. External challenges include increasing competitive pressures in key export markets. As a result, the sector has an urgent need to improve its labour productivity.
