The role of employment in promoting the millennium development goals

Argues that the MDG goal of reducing income poverty can be reached by raising the quantity and quality of employment. Urges to remove gender discrimination, improve maternal health, ensure universal access to primary education, reduce child mortality, and combat HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases. Includes empirical evidence on the importance of the employment-poverty nexus in a number of countries.
