The Indian economic reform process and the implications of the Southeast Asian crisis

Employment and Training Papers No. 55 (Action Programme on Structural Adjustment, Employment and the Role of the Social Partners)

Gives an overview of the reform policies in India as well as an assessment of the impacts of these policies, especially in relation to employment and incomes. Discusses to what extent the crisis in South East Asia has an effort on the reform process in India. Argues that in order for India to have a stronger and more sustainable development path, the reform process should be part of a wider set of economic and social policies including trade policies, industrial policies, and social policies.
