Based on data from enterprise surveys carried out between 1994 and 1996, examines the employment impact of the continuing privatization programme and enterprise restructuring. Concludes that employment in manufacturing continues to fall and the livelihoods of employed workers are also at risk due to the extensive use of various forms of leave time, decline in provision of social services, precarious employment terms and low wages.
