The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the health of the global economy. Worldwide, it is estimated that hundreds of millions of people are at risk of losing their livelihoods, and millions of enterprises and businesses large and small have to close their doors, sometimes for good. How extensive is the damage? Where is the impact on the job market most pronounced? What is the impact on women, young people, older people, workers in the informal economy and other vulnerable groups? And how is the pandemic affecting training, apprenticeships and distance learning that provide the skills workers need to regain a foothold in the future job market?
