ILO and SGS partner to deliver SCORE Training to SMEs around the world

Geneva, Switzerland | 4th July 2017

Press release | 04 July 2017

The ILO and SGS have signed a license agreement that allows SGS to provide SCORE Training to small and medium size factories around the world.

Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE) Training is a practical training and in-factory consulting programme that improves productivity and working conditions in small and medium enterprises (SMEs). SCORE Training demonstrates best international practice in the manufacturing and service sectors and helps SMEs to participate in global supply chains.

SCORE Training focuses on developing cooperative working relations resulting in shared benefits. The five SCORE Training modules cover Workplace Cooperation, Quality Management, Clean Production, Human Resource Management, and Occupational Safety and Health. The SCORE programme is supported by the Governments of Switzerland, Norway and Canada and the ILO.

China was the first country in the world where ILO offered SCORE Training. Chinese suppliers have experienced growing awareness of the challenges of sustainable business practices, which has fuelled the demand for SCORE Training, especially from factories that participate in global supply chains.

This partnership with SGS, allows for SCORE Training to be offered to many more supplier factories in new countries helping them meet the growing demand from major international brands for the SCORE Training."

Mr. Michael Elkin, Chief Technical Adviser, ILO SCORE

SGS is pleased to be in global partnership with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to deliver, the SCORE supplier development training program which can make a real and tangible difference by helping to improve both the working lives of employees and also the productivity of SMEs. SGS will start delivering SCORE Training to various suppliers, initially in India and China, and will then roll out the training services to other relevant sourcing and production countries."

Jeffrey Mc Donald, Executive Vice President, Certification and Business Enhancement (CBE).

Through the expanded delivery of SCORE Training therefore, the ILO SGS partnership will bring about long-lasting improvements in supplier practices by highlighting the link between productivity and workplace practices: a win-win for employees and employers around the world.
