Negotiations for Rio+20 outcome

News | 18 June 2012

The 3rd meeting of the UNCSD Preparatory Committee concluded on Saturday, 16 June, in Rio de Janeiro. After three days of negotiations in various groups and informal consultations, final agreements had not yet been achieved in all paragraphs of the draft Outcome Document.

Therefore, the UNCSD Preparatory Committee invited the Government of Brazil to coordinate pre-conference informal consultations allowing Delegates to further discuss and define the outcome text. The goal is to present the proposed final outcome text to the Heads of State and Government in the Rio+20 high-level sequence from 20 to 22 June 2012.

Meanwhile, the Preparatory Committee did agree on key sections of the draft outcome document. References to ILO values and core labour standards, included in earlier versions of the document, have been mostly maintained. These include the need for the creation of full and productive employment opportunities and decent work for all., A reference has also been made to ILO’s latest Resolution on National Floors for Social Protection.
