SUP in Ukrainian Kherson Floodplains

Kateryna Belyovtseva was 25 years old when she started learning kayaking in Kherson floodplains. Then, she realized that Kherson was lacking recreational water activities. She thought that Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) would be popular because it would be new for local beachgoers.

SUPs can be used in a standing position, sitting, or lying prone. They can be also used by parents with children and older persons. Many people take photographs with SUPs. SUP surfing is a good work-out for almost all muscle groups. They are light and easy to operate."

Kateryna
Kateryna is now 32 years old and decided to start her own business after seeing an advertisement on social media about the ILO’s SIYB Training Program. She applied right away. Kateryna says that the training helped her develop the business plan. When the quarantine began, the training switch to be held online, but that did not affect the quality of the delivery. Working in a group helped her improve her business idea. Kateryna did not receive any funding for the business’ implementation, but the SIYB training helped her gain important knowledge and skills for the development of her business. In addition, consultations on taxation, reporting and labour legislation provided by external experts from the Local Employment Partnership were timely and useful.
