An Innovative Way to Explore the City
Yulia Savchenko, Air of Kherson – Ukraine
Yulia Savchenko is 29 years old with an education in economics. She worked as an operator at a post office but dreamed to have her own business. After she quit, she went to a public employment center, where she was offered to join the SIYB program. Yulia had her business idea while working with metaphorical maps. She knew it had to relate to the air and flights. At the beginning of her business plan development, Yulia wanted to organize flights in balloons. However, she realized their maintenance costs are too high. It was Yulia's husband who suggested the alternative of promoting air tours using drones. A virtual reality helmet makes it possible to have a bird's eye view of the city. When the person wearing the helmet turns their head, the drone responds, and that is how the flight is controlled. Her business shows how ordinary places look quite different when observed from high above. The drone air tours are a unique offer for the city that makes it possible to get to know it better. At the SIYB training sessions, Yulia learned to develop own idea and a step-by-step plan for her business. She worked with specific formulas to calculate profitability and learned how to consider the seasonality of her business. Furthermore, consultations on tax and reporting, provided by the Local Employment Partnership in Kherson, helped to choose the form of taxation when registering the business.
