Bondoc Peninsula of Quezon Province appears quiet and bucolic but has missed out on development because of conflict.
The ILO, in partnership with the Government of Japan through the United Nations Trust for Human Security (UNTFHS), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is working to make inroads in the area. Through a programme that nurtures peace, security and Decent Work, the partners explore local development to show that peace can be built by addressing poverty and inequality.
The ILO and FAO are working with local government authorities, civil society groups, the private sector and informal workers’ associations alongside the most vulnerable workers. Stakeholder dialogue is the means to implement local economic development, through project components that target agricultural and fisheries productivity, skills training, enterprise development, market support, community-based disaster risks management and maternal and child care. Improving security in Bondoc is the immediate aim; improving security in other conflict-challenged areas in the Philippines is the ultimate aim of the programme.
