Exploring the tourism market system to strengthen SMEs competitiveness in the Chiapas region of Mexico

The lab, in collaboration with the ILO Office in Mexico, supports the Ministries of Tourism and Labour in identifying sustainable ways to increase the competitiveness of local SMEs and generate decent jobs in the tourism sector. The analysis pointed out at a series of systemic constraints in the technical and vocational education system, which causes a supply of women and men without the skills demanded by targeted enterprises. This condition is partially triggered by the poor coordination between technical and vocational schools, government training providers and the private sector. among other reasons. The report outlines a series of recommendations for intervention to address these failures, which in turn can lead to the promotion of more and better jobs in the sector.
