Information gathering on MNE Declaration started in the Americas region

Questionnaire | ILO Headquarters | 28 May 2014
At its 320th session in March 2014, the ILO Governing Body adopted a new follow-up mechanism on the MNE Declaration, comprised of promotional activities and an information gathering mechanism.

As part of the information gathering process, the Office will collect prior to each ILO Regional Meeting country-level experiences on harnessing opportunities and addressing challenges related to foreign direct investment (FDI) and activities of multinational enterprises as well as on the promotion of the principles of the MNE Declaration. This information gathering will be done through a short questionnaire addressed to governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations in the ILO member States invited to a Regional Meeting.

The inputs received through the questionnaire will inform a report that will be the basis for a discussion by the tripartite constituents during the Regional Meetings. The precise format of the discussion will be decided at the time of the agenda setting of the Regional Meeting.

After four regional meetings a global report will be presented to the ILO Governing Body that will allow for the identification of lessons learned and good practices as well as for an assessment of the ILO member States’ needs and the effectiveness of promotional activities related to the MNE Declaration.

The new information gathering process will be initiated with the 18th American Regional Meeting (Lima, Peru, 13-16 October 2014). The information gathering from the tripartite constituents in the region has started with the distribution of the questionnaire.
