Professor John Ruggie, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises, presented his 'protect, respect and remedy' framework, laying the foundations of a system for better managing business and human rights challenges.

Professor John Ruggie, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises, presented his "protect, respect and remedy" framework. This framework lays the foundations of a system for better managing business and human rights challenges based on distinct yet complementary responsibilities for States and corporations and effective remedy in case of abuse. At the invitation of the Multinational Enterprises Subcommittee of the Governing Body, Professor Ruggie shared insights on further steps towards operationalizing and promoting the framework, and implications for the ILO.
