Circumstances:ITF contacted over unpaid wages, vessel was detained in Liverpool when pilot alerted PSC to lack of English language spoken on board. Vessel detained by MCA on multiple deficiencies, including severe engine problems, inadequate food and heating. Eight crew members arrested the vessel and were eventually paid and repatriated at company¿s expense. The vessel is arrested by the cargo interests and accruing further debts in unpaid port fees. Seven new crew joined the vessel in December. Two of the remaining crew (Syrian) and one of the replacement crew (Georgian) subsequently contacted ITF for assistance. Problems with outstanding wages, inadequate food and fuel persist. There have been additional problems with food poisoning (following repatriation of the cook) and violent conflict between the Captain and Chief Engineer resulting in police involvement and subsequent repatriation of Chief Engineer who was not replaced.

Comments and Observations:ITF (11 January 2011)
Working language of vessel is Turkish. None of Georgian crew speak Turkish. 1 Georgian speaks English. Attempts at fire and lifeboat drills have failed.
